Ireland
The green Ireland, the "Emerald Isle", is one of the least
populated countries in Europe and it is a land rich in legends.
Topics in this country are very close to reality: the people are
warm and friendly, always willing to share a beer in a pub, where
there is often live music, and it rains almost constantly, which
gives the island a lush green. It is a country to visit slowly,
wandering through agricultural landscapes and along its long and
rugged coastline.
Ireland was never colonized by the Romans. It passed from the
Iron Age to the Viking era, so their Celtic roots have survived
over the years. This is clearly seen in its folklore and its traditional
music.
The most visited areas are those of the west coast. The northern
part is characterized by spectacular peninsulas, lakes and glens
of Donegal. The west coast and its islands are towering cliffs
and rugged mountains. In south we remark seascapes and in north,
the main attraction is the curious basaltic formation of Giant's
Causeway.
In Dublin youth and tradition are mixed. It is a capital of nice
size, with decaying Georgian squares and vibrant pubs. Belfast,
a victim of bad press, is as vital as Dublin, while Cork, Limerick
and in particular Galway fight for a respectable third place.
The rest of the country is relatively flat, with several rivers
that cross and many lakes and pastures. The west coast has a lot
of cliffs and it has the highest point of the island (1041 meters).
In Ireland also highlight many castles and fortresses, that hide
all sorts of secrets, stories of ghosts and murders, and other
less morbid traditions.
