BUDAPEST
The first thing you should know about Budapest is that it is the
result of the union of two cities on each side of the Danube: Buda
and Pest. Huge bridges connect both sides: on the western side Buda,
an old medieval city with cobbled streets, baroque palaces and the
most elegant shopping area; on the eastern side, Pest, economic
and commercial heart of the city with wide avenues and buildings
of XIX century.
Also known as the "Pearl of the Danube", Budapest is
a city of great historical, cultural and natural beauty. It has
many attractions: the Royal Palace, the huge monument to Communist
Liberation, the Buda Castle, several museums of art and history,
Roman ruins of Aquincum Museum, the Heroes Square, the park of
statues, the dome of ninety meters from the Basilica of St. Stephen
... are just some of the many places worth visiting
Whether you are traveling with children or not, it is worth taking
the cog railway running through Városmajor and Széchenyi
Hill. There is also the Sikló Budavári funicular,
near the Chain Bridge, which goes up the hill to the castle, where
you can visit the caves.
In the middle of the river is Margit Sziget (Margaret Island),
a green oasis with trails that run along the river, a Japanese
garden and two sets of ruins of XIII century among other interesting
places.
Budapest is proud of its medicinal springs. There are 118 with
70 million liters of water/day at temperatures between 21 and
78 ° C. These springs supply many spas, most of which are
housed in buildings of great architectural beauty (from modernist
to the XVI century and issued to men, women and mixed).
