Finland is the most isolated Scandinavian country, independent since 1917. For centuries it was dominated by imperial powers; first by Swedes and after by the Tsarist Russians. Nowadays it has a good sense of their own culture and values deeply rooted in rural life. It is a highly developed country, with great benefits and social welfare.

Most of the territory is flat and covered with vast forests and large lakes, but also presents notable regional variations.

To the south there are the less impressive landscapes but the capital, Helsinki, compensates with its brilliant architecture and superb collections of national history and art.

The Lagos Region extends from the Russian border to the east until almost the west coast. In this extensive area water is more common than land, providing an excellent means of transport for the timber industry. The towns are located in narrow strips located between lakes, which provide a green environment easily accessible.

Northwards forests earn in luxuriance, rising gradually to Lapland, the most seductive of Finland. In this region live Sami, semi-nomadic reindeer herders scattered throughout northern Scandinavia.
